In a world where woman and girls have been told to lower our voices, to be proper, to bottle up our emotions, to be the better person, and to “tough it out”, it is imperative that we question:
who is defining what is proper of a woman
who is benefitting from women bottling up our emotions
whose voice are women drowning out that we need to lower our own
why do women have to the better person.
Maria Felix, a Mexican actress with bewitching beauty and unphased courage said shared bold advice to women in her interview.
Her response: “Women…protest…complain…don’t let yourself…prepare yourself…do with your life what you choose and not what your men permit you to be. Love and love yourself. Don’t be satisfied with bits.”
For too long, men have misused religion, spirituality, resources, rules, and land to gain power, to dominate, to dictate, to destroy and to limit information and access to women. Thousands of years and thousands of societies have been shaped by the constraints and barriers that men have created to defend themselves and many more societies have been damaged by weaponized narratives.
If there is one thing we can do, is question everything you have ever been told is the norm, the standard, or the only way.
